It's becoming more and more popular to have a wedding cake that isn't necessarily a wedding cake. For example, some couples have opted to use a tower of cupcakes in place of a traditional tiered cake. Some couples have gone even further, eliminating the cake element entirely. One example includes a mound of round donuts piled high into the sky, or cookies stacked in the shape of a wedding cake, tiers and all. While a beautiful cake is always appreciated on an aesthetic level, your taste buds (and your guests') will be even happier with a delicious (rather than simply beautiful) cake. Consider something different from the traditional, plain wedding cake flavors. You can even tie the flavor into your theme.
Another fun option is to incorporate special moments or hobbies from the bride and groom. For example, travel-savvy couples may opt for a luggage-shaped cake full of a variety of flavors to represent diversity. Or if the couple are fanatics about a certain sports team, they can decorate their cake to reflect the team's colors (especially great if these match with their wedding colors). You can also try something similar with favorite movies, musicians, holidays or countries.
